Latest anti-smoking ads pack a punch
The Kansas City Star
If the latest anti-smoking ads don’t make you gasp, you’d better check your pulse.
One starts with a picture of a beautiful young woman with lovely hair. The camera then shows her now looking at herself in the mirror.
She has little hair, which she tops with a wig. Her skin is worn and her face is shrunken and she has a trach tube from surgery — all from smoking.
People don’t smoke cigarettes; cigarettes smoke them.
Other commercials are of a diabetic smoker who lost his leg and a 7-year-old boy who has asthma attacks from secondhand smoke.
The real-life stories should be enough to make smokers quit and help prevent others from ever starting the terribly expensive, nasty and deadly habit.
