In political circles, Question No. 2 on Kansas City’s ballot is seen as an almost sure-bet winner on Aug. 7.

Approving revenue bonds to improve the city’s sewer system makes sense.

And sewer rates will go up a lot faster in the next few years if voters reject the bonds.

But supporters better not overlook the fact that many residents don’t trust the Water Services Department.

Its reputation could threaten passage of the bonds in three weeks.

Actually, what might sink the bonds is the suspicion that — instead of using the funds to REPAIR existing sewers — some of the money will be wasted EXPANDING sewers & water service in unneeded (but profitable to developers) mostly-Northland projects.

And that the more environmental-friendly projects like water gardens are being ignored in favor of just building bigger pipes.
