KC's hot dog billboard could have been worse
Some baseball fans are upset by the anti-hot dog billboard that’s now posted near Kauffman Stadium.
It’s gaining plenty of attention, what with the All-Star Game and other events just around the corner.
But here’s an even, shall we say, more direct billboard that’s sponsored by the same group: Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.
Given my choice, I’d take KC’s billboard and its message in a heartbeat over the more direct one in Florida.
Still, because hot dogs really are bad for you, as anyone knows, I don’t oppose the message in either billboard.
People can still enjoy a hot dog here and there - especially at ball games. Heck, that’s being an American.
But they shouldn’t be a daily staple of your diet.

11 months, 2 weeks agoGeorge, why would you call that organization a name like that? I am a conservative which is why I support that association of people’s right to say whatever they want. We know food with high fat content is bad for us. Gee, just look at the obesity all around us. I have no problem with people saying what they want to say. This is far different than NYC wanting to limit the size of soft drink cups. I oppose the coercive nature of NYC’s proposed actions. It’s fine with me if someone wants to spend their own money to put up that billboard.
George, I disagree with much of the editorial content of the Star. But, it seems that you come on here to flame whatever is written by the Star. What’s the point in that?

Did I say they had no right to the billboard? I merely said I thought they were a bunch of dumbasses for bothering. What sane person doesn’t know hotdogs are not the most nutritous food in the world?
All these types of organizations accomplish is for their members to get this feel good feeling running down their leg.
Your equating this to some “conservative” opinion is, in fact, not factual. Where did I use the term “liberal” or “conservative” in my post? I did not. Me thinks you may be too quick to criticize we conservatives as conservatives, when, in fact, I was not taking a political route at all—

11 months, 2 weeks agoAs far as criticizing the star, well, if the shoe fits wear it. I am sorry they don’t have more contributors I agree with either politically or philosophically. ET is the only one I usually agree with—his must be a lonely friggin’ job!!
Would you prefer they get a pass on such things as supporting trolleys via my tax dollars, supporting the etax which drives jobs out of KC, the star itself taking TIF money and then having the audacity to opine how wrong these subsidies are?

11 months, 2 weeks agoAnd finally, why wouldn’t this “organization” as you called it Kent, spend their money on nutritional programs for the poor kids of KC? In a phrase, PR. The billboard gets them press, educating and feeding poor families is working in the trenches and gets them nothing in their mind!!

11 months, 2 weeks agoGeorge, I’ll say this, and then I’m through. I through the fact out that I am a conservative to hopefully keep you from jumping with both feet. That didn’t work, did it?
Actually, it is a liberal trait to be interested in how other people spend their own money. One can do with their own money as they wish. So what? When you suggest they should spend their money feeding the poor, you are suggesting how they should spend their own money. That was no different than when Yael criticized some KC people for giving money to MU athletics instead of MU academics. It’s their money, they can do with it what they want.
I didn’t say anything about giving anyone a pass on anything. However, I would prefer fellow conservatives not resort to name calling…like dumbasses, etc. The liberals do a great job of that, we should leave that stuff to them. It makes them look silly, I’d rather conservatives not look silly.
