The Kansas City Star

Everyone’s ga-ga over Google coming to Kansas City, right?

You would certainly think that by reading and watching media in recent weeks.

But I just came back from an interesting luncheon update from the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce regarding its Big 5 initiatives (more on that in a later post).

As I walked back to The Star, this thought occurred:

Not one of the many high-profile speakers - to my memory - mentioned Google Fiber or its fiberhoods and anything about the wonderfulness of high-speed Internet service coming soon to parts of Kansas City and Kansas City, Kan.

And that’s despite the fact that people in the room were discussing initiatives dealing with UMKC’s future downtown campus, entrepreneurship in KC and life sciences.

Of course Google is relevant to KC’s future. High-speed Internet service will help entrepreneurs and residents.

However, it’s still interesting that in a room full of the region’s movers and shakers all the hype about Google didn’t come up once on Wednesday.
