Huge KC sales tax victory for Mayor James
Kansas City voters overwhelmingly approved a new sales tax today, handing a huge victory to Mayor Sly James.
Congratulations to the mayor and City Council who, along with City Manager Troy Schulte, now must wisely and responsibly spend the extra $23 million a year they will get from the sales tax, after deducting a few small property tax decreases.
Kansas City voters in Jackson County endorsed the tax 65-35 percent.
Clay County voters endorsed by a healthy 57-43 percent margin.
Now the city must use the money as promised: to fix more roads and slightly improve the parks system with a new tax.
Question 2 - the $500 million sewer revenue bonds - passed with more than 85 percent of the vote in Jackson County and around 75 percent in Clay County.

8 months, 3 weeks agoSince KC has decided to raise taxes in an economic downturn….it will now join the ranks of other “prosperous” cities like Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo,Ny etc…and when more people start moving out, hence another major loss in the tax base…..they can raise taxes again to compensate for those no longer paying taxes…..welcome to the liberal world!
