Karzai knows a chump when he sees one, and Uncle Sam stands out as a big one. The United States already is on the hook for billions of dollars that go to train, equip and run Afghan security units, not to mention the billions more that keep U.S. troops in that country.
But for a strategic partnership the two countries have been trying to iron out, Karzai wants a commitment of at least $2 billion a year from the U.S. government.
Now more than ever, it’s time — after more than 10 years of this — for U.S. forces to walk away and leave Afghanistan.
