Immigration reform no sure bet
The Kansas City Star
The Republicans are starting to make the right kind of noise, but immigration reform remains no sure bet.
Sen. Marco Rubio, a Florida Republican, was on the news talk show circuit over the weekend, espousing GOP support for a meaningful bipartisan deal. It would mean a path to citizenship for the country’s 11 million illegal immigrants.
A good bill also would help reform the image of the Republican Party of being biased against people of color.
But getting legislation passed remains tricky with some lawmakers favoring building more fences and having more border patrols vs. amnesty for those already here. Regardless of the outcome, Rubio is positioning himself for a White House run in 2016.
That’s a sure bet.
