'I want to vote a STRAIGHT REPUBLICAN TICKET!'

I voted this afternoon in the deep-blue KC neighborhood of Brookside. Very short line. My wife, Judy, voted earlier in the day and told this story:

An older woman got her ballot and sat down before one of those white cardboard privacy alcoves. She called for the person who came in with her, who was apparently her helper.

Where are my glasses?” she demanded. She was very loud.

I can’t see the ballot!” she continued, her voice still raised. “I want to vote a STRAIGHT REPUBLICAN TICKET!”

Someone came over to help.

Where’s Mitt Romney’s name?” she said, and asked the guy to point out the right place.

Earlier, when I came in, a woman outside gave me a sample ballot listing the AFL-CIO’s suggested votes. Inside the polling place, the trash was full of AFL-CIO ballots.

Obama will probably carry this precinct, but there were a few who had other ideas — and at least one voter who made her voice HEARD. Literally.

Alas, she probably wanted to vote for a Republican Party that is long gone.

Perhaps the Party of Ike or Rockefeller — or even Nixon. Perhaps the Party of Buckley and Goldwater and even Reagan. Or even that of the Bushes.

Of course, those Parties do not exist. None of those liberal guys could get the GOP nomination in the Party of Grover Norquist and Rush Limbaugh and Todd Akin.

And Paul Ryan, the GOP’s “future”.

FYI? It was the GOP Legislature that eliminated straight-ticket voting — something that has cost them quite a bit, as it turned out.

Seems they did it just as Missouri started to go red in Presidential elections. Oops!

Claire and Jay and Clint and Chris and Jason thank you.
