Hope Chiefs season isn't over before it starts

The Chiefs open their season a week from Sunday, hosting the Atlanta Falcons at Arrowhead Stadium. Fired up, yet?

Well, ardent fans sure didn’t see many reasons to get excited about the club during the preseason, when the Chiefs had a 1-3 record.

Sure, the games didn’t count. Then again, Kansas City was badly outclassed in two of the losses, and outscored overall by 55 points. Only Buffalo and the New York Jets had worse margins of defeat in the NFL preseason.

Throw in the suspension of Tamba Hali, a few key injuries and the fact that Matt Cassel is still the quarterback, and the Chiefs’ chances for a strong start to the 2012 regular season are dim indeed.
