Gunfire rampant at start of New Year
The Kansas City Star
People with guns in Kansas City apparently didn’t get the memo, read the newspaper, or watch or listen to broadcast news reports from the Police Department.
Chief Darryl Forté and others had warned residents not to celebrate the New Year by firing guns in the air. In the Northeast area and other neighborhoods, people reported that what they heard at midnight was a war zone of gunfire.
It was easy to tell the caliber of the weapons from the noise they made. It also was quite clear that this city has a lot of automatic and semi-automatic weapons in circulation.
Clips of 15 to 20 shots went off continuously. Where were the police during the battle zone of gunfire?
Probably taking cover like other good law abiding citizens. There were simply too many guns being fired for arrests to take place — safely.
