Groundhog, Trump...and nuclear weapons
Today were the two big announcements; the groundhog that came out and saw his shadow and Donald Trump’s big GOP endorsement. Both have taken up major amounts of news coverage. Both do not change how I live my life in any way. Winter has been a walk in the park this year, literally. With sixty degree temperatures and a mild breeze, I’m fine with six more week of winter like this. Even if old man winter does show up, I’ll put on a coat. It’s not the end of the world.
Now we move onto the most recent announcement of Donald Trump’s endorsement for President. Turns out after much speculation last night that it would be Newt Gingrich, it is Mitt Romney. I thought the initial thought of Gingrich was funny since the only thing the two of them have in common is the same number of ex-wives. Romney makes more sense. They are both in the same tax bracket and both own businesses. Since “The Donald” is not a politician, just a celebrity, I find no reason to go on about this. Maybe next we will find out who other major celebrities will endorse? Maybe C-Span will find the need to run those endorsements as well? I wonder who Lady Gaga is going to endorse. I’m sure that news will be breaking at any time.
As America is so self-consumed right now on celebrity endorsements and which ring tone is playing on Gingrich’s cell phone (Dancing Queen by ABBA), there is real trouble happening in the Middle East. Israel and Iran’s conflict is really escalating right now and it seems like few in America are paying much attention. This, like six more weeks of winter, has me shivering. The moderators of debates have asked the GOP nominees how they feel about Israel. Each one enthusiastically tells us they are great friends with Israel and stand with Israel. Paul is the only one with the philosophy that the world has its own problems and we (America) needs to stay out of it. If there was ever a time we might press these nominees for a bit more clarification on these points, now is a great time. See, there is an ever increasing chance that Israel is getting ready to strike at Iran’s nuclear sites.
I have been paying attention to this, even though I find it hard to do sometimes. I’ll admit I am not up on every detail, because I have also been preoccupied by Demi Moore’s overdose and 911 tape release. Here is what I have found interesting. As a way to slow down Iran’s nuclear program, there was a bomb strategically placed and detonated killing a well-known nuclear scientist. It sounds like something out of the latest big box office thriller, but it is true. No one has claimed responsibility for this attack. If you can’t get to the sites, kill the people who make the bombs. There is going to be a movie made out of this, trust me.
It is no secret that Iran has said it wants Israel taken off the map. Israel has declared it must do what it has to protect itself. As Iran’s nuclear program continues to advance, Israel continues to step up defenses against it. Here is the hard foreign policy question; what if Israel acts before the United States feels like they have exhausted all diplomatic options? With all of the debates happening and all of the time these candidates have taken up on national television, this is a question that I think all the candidates should spend some more time answering. This question could have a profound impact on the United States, Israel and possibly the world. I am not saying it is an easy answer, but if we are giving this much time to Donald Trump’s endorsement, could we please spend a little time on a possible Israel/Iran war? Old man winter showing up isn’t the end of my world, but a conflict like this may be the end of theirs.

3 months, 1 week agoI’m going to take a stab at this and say that I believe there are a whole bunch of resources in this country devoted to the Israel-Iran right at this very moment and 24/7. I’ll even venture to guess that the majority those resources don’t care or pay attention one whit to who Trump endorses. So you and a lot of America can go back to waiting to see what Demi Moore does next. You’re welcome.
PS: I find it funny that you tie in the republicans who are aspiring to being in the White House and never once mention the man who at this time is the one responsible for being on top of what happens with Israel and Iran. Thanks for the laugh.

3 months, 1 week agoIf Israel does what it says its going to do, you can bet the US will be blamed. The US will be sucked into this conflict with Iran in some way for sure.
