GOP circus about to fold its tent in Iowa

This is perfect: Just days before the GOP circus known as the Iowa caucus ends, political pundits are talking about a surge by - of all candidates - Rick Santorum.

Yes, after all the other GOP flavors-of-the-week (Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich) have faded in the polls, now it’s Santorum’s turn to look like a real threat to do well or even pull off a last-minute victory in Iowa.

He won’t, of course, because his socially conservative views don’t have enough supporters in that state.

Besides, Mitt Romney’s probably going to win in Iowa. And in New Hampshire (where Santorum is barely a blip in the polls).

Yet wait, who’s that passenger in the circus clown car we now see pulling into view?

It’s Ron Paul, hoping for something really weird to happen next Tuesday.

And yes, a Paul victory would definitely fall in that category. It would certainly show that - at least in Iowa - the Republicans don’t have a clue about what it will take to beat Barack Obama next November.

Yael, my sentiments exactly. You can’t call this Republican display anything but…. Help me! I can’t stop laughing!

I have to say it’s been immensely entertaining like a good horse race with lead changes and different front runners always surging and waning against the slow & steady Romney. That’s all it’s been though, a reality show of no consequence. Jon Huntsman today said it best, “They pick corn in Iowa. They pick Presidents in New Hampshire”

It takes class to recognize class. Rick Santorum is class and would be a great President.(As would Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann, and Mitt or Newt would be fine as well.)Another Obama term would finish the job of ending this country as we know it, and would thus greatly imperil the lives of today’s young people and future generations as well. Obamacare itself virtually destroys our cherished freedoms. Failure is not an option for the Republicans Thank you. Mark Robertson Independence

No, we want all to benefit from this great country. Obamanism is what is running this, at least once great county, into the ground. Those Keynesian policies were disastrous with FDR, and they have been disastrous with Obama. Destroying the economy though does make it easier to make at least 51 percent largely dependent on government. Thank you. Mark Robertson
