Olathe now joins Kansas City, Kan., and parts of Kansas City in getting Google Fiber. Ho-hum.

The ultra high speed Internet service is expected to be a boon to the Kansas City area. It is supposed to make it possible for new companies to locate here and start wondrous new businesses that will root never-before imagined futuristic industries in this area.

But so far very little of that excitement has taken root. At a candidates’ forum Tuesday night in Kansas City, Kan., none of the persons seeking Unified Government positions in the April 2 elections in Wyandotte County talked of how City Hall could promote an Oklahoma-like land-rush of companies wanting to be the first to get the Google gold.

People in countries such as India have openly expressed more excitement about Google Fiber being here than Kansas Citians are. And folks elsewhere are more than aware of the possibilities.
