City Council members aren’t rushing to change Kansas City’s strict billboard law, and that’s good news for the quality of life in this city.

The council was going to discuss an attempted weakening of the ordinance at this Wednesday’s meeting of the Planning, Zoning and Economic Development Committee.

However, the ordinance reportedly will be held two more weeks before coming back to the panel.

That’s on top of the fact that the proposed change, sought by council member Ed Ford, already has been held in committee for a few months.

Here’s a recent Star editorial that lays out the case for keeping the law.

Suffice it to say, though, that this is a fluid situation. Council members and neighborhood groups must remain vigilant in making sure they continue to monitor any possible alterations of the law.
