The United States should bow to Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai’s wishes to speed up the U.S. troop exit from his country.

Karzai is right to be disturbed by new pictures of U.S. troops posing with body parts of dead insurgents.

A statement from the Afghan presidential palace to the Los Angeles Times this week after that newspaper published the photos that U.S. soldiers’ said the behavior depicted in the shots was “inhumane and provocative.”

It is such a disgusting act to take photos with body parts and then share it with others,” the statement said.

The U.S. has apologized again and is investigating the incident. The pictures were taken in 2010. The NATO presence in Afghanistan, which includes the United States, is expected to wind down by the end of 2014.

If we leave now or in 18 months it will make little difference. Karzai won’t last six months unless he makes a peace with the Taliban.

If we want to get at Mullah Omar or the other Taliban leaders that helped Bin Laden they’ll be easier to find out in the open. Drones and Cruise missiles are cheap by comparison to our sons and daughters.

Before the Taliban, the last President of Afghanistan to watch foreign troops leave ended up hanged and castrated in a public square.

Maybe Karzai is planning to let the next election there be on the legit — so he can get out quick & let the next sucker get the rope.
