Dwindling number of trick or treaters
The Kansas City Star
Today is Halloween. The stores have been stocked with candy for weeks.
But what’s sad is the number of trick or treaters keeps dwindling. If a half-dozen kids in costumes show up at my door tonight, it will be a lot.
Last year there were only three. I ended up giving away the candy to an adult friend the next day.
Over the years, the number of kids going door-to-door for candy has dwindled. People are afraid to go out anymore and afraid of what their neighbors might do.
It’s just another example of how our sense of community and togetherness have diminished. We and our kids are less well-off because of it.
