Congress must stand up to NRA's bullies
The out-of-control leaders of the NRA are boasting that they have bought Congress and Congress will stay bought.
In other words, the NRA honchos warn, there will be no serious gun control this year, even after the horrific Newtown massacre.
That flies in the face of sanity and what would be good for the health of this nation in the long run.
Let’s hope members who got “A” ratings and money from the NRA in the past can break the chains that bind them to outdated notions of how to limit the access to guns in America.
Take a look at the local delegation, and the NRA has given solid grades and money to Republicans Kevin Yoder, Lynn Jenkins, Vicky Hartzler and Sam Graves in the House. Emanuel Cleaver received an “F.”
In the Senate, the NRA gave “A” ratings and money to Republicans Pat Roberts and Kevin Moran, and an “A” to Roy Blunt. Democrat Claire McCaskill got an “F.”
All eyes will be on Washington this week as Vice President Joe Biden rolls out some ideas on how to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and to call for stricter gun regulation.
All are good ideas, worth passage by Congress - if it has the guts to stand up to a few power-hungry leaders at the NRA.

4 months, 1 week agoWell, in what may be the ONLY true thing that the NRA ever says about gun regulation, they problably have bought and/or bullied enough Members to abort meaningful regulation.
Seriously, how can keeping dangerous felons and psychos from being able to buy AKs and hundred-round clips be controversial — in a sane world? Or for that matter, ANYONE getting those weapons, since they have no lawful use that cannot be met by less dangerous weaponry? Exactly what lawful purpose requires firing 80 rounds a minute?
If murdering twenty children in less time than it takes to download “American Pie” doesn’t move you, you are either nuts or bought or intimidated. And you have no business in Congress.

4 months agoAdd out-of-control, insane and power-hungry to the list of insults YTA has hurled at the NRA and any of the millions of Americans who agree with their stance. Throw in a good slave-chains reference and we’re really in business. The list is getting pretty long from the guy who wonders why we can’t all just get along….
What does it matter if you have a congressional scorecard when we have a dictatorial president who wants to act unilaterally “for our own good?” Gee, thanks Dad.
Biden can roll out all the ideas he wants, as long as they don’t bypass the will of the people as expressed by congress. If they try to enact a tantamount ban through executive order they will be stirring up a hornet’s nest.
