The Kansas City Chiefs did the right thing by playing their scheduled football game Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Life goes on, and the Chiefs showed that.

Then they did something else correctly: They won the game.

The team also appropriately decided against wearing any kind of patch or otherwise honoring linebacker Javon Belcher, who killed his girlfriend and then himself on Saturday.

Murderers don’t deserve that kind of recognition.

The only thing that went “wrong” for the Chiefs?

The 27-21 victory by the club lifted it to a still-horrible 2-10 record for the year. The Chiefs are now tied with Jacksonville for the worst mark in the NFL.

That means the Chiefs have for now lost the lock on the 1st selection in the NFL draft next year, as one national radio broadcast was making clear on Sunday.

Well, that’s a minor inconvenience for the team, which showed a lot of resilience by taking care of business on Sunday.

But for the tragedy, the story would have been that Brady Quinn finaly got a chance to practice and play enough to reach his potential. As it is, he got a chance to show both the talent and leadership qualities that made him a great Notre Dame quarterback.
