Camera protects Rush Limbaugh's bust - but not lawmakers

UPDATE at 3 p.m. Thursday: The latest on this weird story.

Gotta love the priorities in Jefferson City.

It appears the wigged out Republicans there think someone’s going to deface the new bust of conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh.

From an ABC News story:

A security camera, which was installed specifically for Limbaugh’s bust, will provide 24-hour surveillance of the statue, said Trevor Fox, the House’s director of communications. Limbaugh’s statue, which stands between those of 19th century painter George Bingham and former Missouri Gov. Warren Hearnes, is the only statue in the Missouri House’s Hall of Fame that has its own security camera.”

Wonder where that crack security force in Jefferson City was when this happened.

You’d think actual threats made against live human beings would be more important than protecting an inanimate object.

yep YT, why the ows people have shown how “peaceful” you libs are. Why would anyone think such a group, which ignores property rights, would do such a thing as deface govt. property? Oops, that’s right, they have!!!!!

I’m assuming you didn’t click on the link or you were quick to dismiss the crosshairs being put on 5 Dem’s doors at the State Capitol, George. That’s not defacing Gov property, now is it? I’m going to go ahead assume that Dem’s didn’t do this to themselves, and that includes OWS

I insist that we get our money’s worth:

Every GOP Member should be required to have his photo taken with BronzeRush — and a copy sent to every constituent. Ditto for any state-wide GOP candidate.

And each of them should have to send a message as to why they think that a racist, sexist, homophobic self-admitted multiple-felony drug addict/conspirator is an appropriate person to so honor.

It’s official: the line between famous and infamous has been erased.

I’m sure the last person that wore a fur coat thought they were safe before being doused by a bucket of red paint. And the lumberjack that died when he sawed into a spike.

A camera CERTAINLY isn’t an overreaction when dealing with the left. I mean, what are you going to do, hire a security guard? They’ll just stab him or worse…

There’s a good use of the taxpayer’s money. First they have to sneak Rush into a secret installation ceremony, then install 24 hour surveillance to protect the bust. What’s next, razor wire and dogs? Like the old song said “paranoia runs deep”. It would be funny if it wasn’t wasting money.

@Mark - Just look at the paranoia displayed here. Every post I see from @Kay Fox calls everyone that disagrees with her a “whiner”, @George thinks that every OWS member defaces government property, and @Christopher Michael Lindsey thinks liberals are going to stab people. This is pretty funny stuff. They’re so wrapped up in their fear of moving forward and leaving the 1950s behind that they get a beachhead like Rush’s bust and feel they have to fortify it.

Frankly, I could care less about Rush’s bust, and know that it will eventually find the trash heap when they find more Missourians worthy of the honor. If you go here, you’ll see it’s a pretty eclectic group of people. http://www.house.mo.gov/famous.aspx. I still think Jesse James should be included. While some tag him as infamous, he was a hero to a lot of people in Missouri.

Jeff, I guess you don’t follow the news….you know, the whole “Chicago cops got stabbed this week at Black Bloc protest”? Yep, pretty funny stuff. JUst as funny as the senior citizen at the Tea Party protest that had his finger bitten off by a wacko leftist. HILARIOUS!

And Christopher, I guess you didn’t follow Rep Giffords being shot or the crosshairs that were placed on the doors of Democratic legislators in Missouri. If you want to paint with a broad brush, let’s start painting. HILARIOUS, too.

You just made my point, thanks.

Hey, hey, hey!!! It’s a hunk of plaster for God’s sake! It’s not like it’s a person. For the price of this 24 hr surveillance they could provide care or services for a disabled person or fix some pot holes or do a little repair on a decrepit bridge someplace. Says a lot about priorities doesn’t it?

Paranoia strikes deep… starts when you’re always afraid.”

    Ironic, ain’t it?

The story following this one on the Star web pag is on how law enforcement rounded up a bunch of dopers so we can lock them up. Guess they don’t have Rush’s connections. Those drug criminals just get busted — not a bust.

Somebody help me out here. How did pointing out the violence from the right-wing in contrast to his broad determination that everyone who is moderate or left-wing are violent criminals make his point? Or does he think that some liberals put targets on Dems doors and attempted to kill a democratic representative? I don’t follow….

  14. 12 months ago

Incidentally, the Black Blok people you cite are Anarchists, not liberals. Slight difference there.

And from the reports I’ve seen, Bill Rice, the gentleman who’s finger was bitten off, was the aggressor and took the first punch in the fight. So… Is he really the poor paragon of virtue you want to rally around?

  15. 12 months ago

Jeff, Unfortunately, there are right-wingnuts and left-wingnuts. And to all above, let’s focus on the more moderate — not the crazies on either side.

However, I do think that guarding anyone’s bust is a waste of money when there are potholes, schools, etc. that the money could be spent on.
