Brownback better sign Shariah law bill
The Kansas City Star
(UPDATE: And he did Friday.)
What kind of ultra-conservative is Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback? We could find out today.
Brownback has a chance to show his conservative creds with the tea party and other supporters by signing the so-called Shariah law bill.
The Kansas Legislature recently concluded its do-no-good session after approving this bill.
Sure, signing it would be a display of ignorant, anti-Islamic discrimination by Brownback. And it wouild be yet another indication the governor doesn’t live in the real world.
But, hey, when has that stopped the governor before?
Remember his signing of the big tax cut bill earlier this week, the one that’s going to have to create hundreds of thousands of jobs to replace all the tax revenue the state will lose, leading to the loss of services for plenty of Kansans?
The Shariah law bill is one of those nonessential measures pushed by conservatives to show that Kansas courts and government agencies won’t get pushed around and base their decisions on Islamic or other foreign legal codes.
Um, when has that ever happened in Kansas?
It hasn’t, but again, Brownback and the conservatives don’t want to leave anything to chance.
They need to show those foreigners they can’t control the courts of Kansas. Just like they’ve been doing since, well, never.
