Beyonce not the only one lip-syncing in Washington
The Kansas City Star
At first I was dazzled by the way Beyonce belted out the National Anthem at Monday’s inauguration. Nailed every note, didn’t she?
Yes, just not at the inauguration. As we now know, the super-popular singer lip-synched the anthem, and the Marine Corps band’s accompaniment was pre-taped also.
Too bad. Had it been real, Beyonce’s performance would have been inspiring, which is always a good thing for a presidential inauguration. Now it becomes a good show, but also a show of caution.
But, hey, she did a great job of faking it, didn’t she? I know I was fooled. And isn’t that so typical of Washington?
Today on the morning news shows I watched two Republican congressmen at separate news events deploring the Senate’s long-term failure to pass a budget. Both of them said the same thing. “The last time they passed a budget, you never heard of the iPad.” Ugh. No originality. Everybody is just spouting out rehearsed talking points.
In the nation’s capital, in politics, and maybe in more of life today than we want to acknowledge, everybody is just lip-syncing.
