Berkley Park development a start
The Kansas City Star
Adding housing, restaurants, bars or a hotel would have been preferred by a lot of people, however, the $4 million hydroponic farm slated to go into Berkley Riverfront Park is a beginning.
BrightFarms plans to build a 100,000-square-foot greenhouse on a five-acre tract east of the Heart of America Bridge, The Kansas City Star reports. A lot of people who live in the River Market area walk, run and bike through Berkley Park.
The hydroponic farm is expected to begin operating this year, becoming a new attraction for the area. The company, which is known for its rooftop gardens in New York City, is expected to grow fresh tomatoes, lettuce and herbs annually.
If sold in this area, the production will do a lot to provide fresh produce to people in midtown, who could use it.
