Bachmann, tea party take a hit

First Herman Cain and now Michele Bachmann have essentially dropped out of the race to become America’s next president.

Just five months ago Bachmann was Iowa’s darling, winning the summertime straw poll there.

But on Tuesday she finished last among the serious presidential candidates in Iowa’s first-in-the-nation caucuses. It was a disappointing comedown for Bachmann, who couldn’t capitalize on her founding of the tea party caucus in the U.S. House to win votes in Iowa.

Bachmann thus followed Cain as a fading star of the GOP contenders. Both once seemed like potential winners in the derby to face President Barack Obama this November.

And both fell woefully short of reaching that goal.

It’s all posturing boys. Everybody needs a boogeyman. The Dems are trying to wring a few more dollars out of the faithful before the Tea gets any weaker. They’ve been useful idiots for both parties but they’re fading fast so why not make a last few bucks before the serious campainging begins?

The polling on the Teas is weak and getting weaker. Their favorability numbers are falling and candidates are already distancing themselves. Being a Tea Party candidate might have gotten you elected in ‘10 but it’s more likely to beat you in ‘12. Republicans and Dems alike are going to learn that intransigence and obstructionism comes at a high price. It’s looking like the Tea Party is going to be more useful to the Dems than to the Republicans.
