Another night, another fight

You know the old joke, I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out? That is how I feel about the GOP candidates for President right now. It is a verbal street fight and maybe an intelligent debate will break out.

There is another GOP debate on tonight. I am very active on Twitter, in fact a little too active sometimes. I offer my running commentary on the debates on Twitter. Who answered the question right, who could have done better, who wore the best tie. At this rate, I think I am developing Carpel tunnel syndrome from all my typing. Is it me or does there seem to be more debates lately than reruns of the Kardashian shows on E!?

The debates are just more of the same every time. Gingrich attacks the “Elite Media” for any question he finds offensive. The audience goes crazy and Gingrich comes out looking like a Georgia peach. Here is a hint media, be ready. Media you are no longer just a moderator in these debates, you are now an active participant to Gingrich. Get ready to rumble.

Romney will spend 50% of the debate convincing us he is a common man just running your average private sector company. You know, just like us except making about the same in one day as most of us make in a year. He will spend the other 50% of the time telling us Gingrich is a lobbyist. Paul will lecture us like our tenth grade political science teacher and Santorum will occasionally get a word in, but no one will be listening because everyone will be waiting for Newt’s next smack down. We are all watching the GOP debate now for the same reason we watch Cops on television and it is not to learn more about law enforcement. It is for the next sensational headline or as I like to call it, “a John King.”

There will be no mention of our strained relationship with Pakistan. Remember, the country by India who was our BFF and now is acting like Paris Hilton to our Kim Kardashian. There will be no mention of North Korea’s new leader, the uprisings in the Middle East or the ongoing suffering in the Sudan. There will be a lot of talk about keeping Mexicans out, but no talk about the incredible amount of drug violence in Mexico that is making Mexicans even more likely to want to flee and justified in doing so. Yes, the focus should be on the United States and “getting Americans back to work”, but foreign policy is a huge part of the role of the Presidency.

I say we are done with the social issues questions. I think the public fully understands the GOP candidates’ views on gay marriage, abortion, gays in the military. Enough already! It is not like suddenly Santorum is going to declare, “I was just kidding on my gay marriage stance, marriage equality for everyone.”

Unfortunately I can’t watch tonight’s debate. I am at a corporate function. I will follow on twitter for the play by play. I will leave it to my fellow twitterettes to fill me in on the latest sound bite. I am not too sad, my fingers need a rest and I am sure soon enough I will have yet another debate to satisfy my tweeting habit.

Good luck candidates and may the best man win. Now to your corners and wait for the bell.
