2013 could be another long, difficult year
The Kansas City Star
It would have been nice to have December retail sales bound above numbers recorded in 2006.
It would have been fabulous to have manufacturing activity in the seven-state area including Missouri and Kansas be at least as strong as it was in the early years of the 21st century.
But this year isn’t ending on such positive notes. U.S. holiday retail sales were the weakest since 2008, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City reports that manufacturing activity in the region weakened in December.
With the fiscal cliff unresolved, it looks as if the winter and the New Year will be economically hard for a lot of families. Hopes for a turnaround are starting to look bleak.
