Monday's editorial: Bicyclists need help in KC

Kansas City isn’t a bicycle-friendly community. That’s dismaying, particularly now that gas prices are soaring and more people are riding to work.

Monday's editorial: Girls embrace different leadership styles

Anyone who has pondered the relatively low numbers of women in politics, top management and prominent board positions might want to take a look at a new study by the Girl Scouts.

At least part of the reason might be in how young girls perceive leadership far differently than boys.

By Ross Balano, Midwest Voices Columnist 2008

Sanchez's column: Immigration raids have their problems

By Mary Sanchez, Kansas City Star Editorial Page columnist

The federal government has been hard at work in Iowa lately.

In May, federal officials quietly leased a huge cattle complex in Waterloo, Iowa. Soon citizens were speculating about what might possibly be coming to the National Cattle Congress fairgrounds. A simulation exercise for federal officials to practice responding to an incident of mass terrorism?

Tuesday's editorial: Talking with Iran isn't appeasing Iran

Neither President Bush nor the Democrats come off looking very good in their recent shouting match over the idea of talking with Iran.

The key principle to keep in mind: U.S. leaders should not make concessions that reward terrorism because that will encourage more terrorism.

Tuesday's editorial: Shaking the tin cup for Phill Kline

Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline takes pains to portray himself as an involved prosecutor, not just an anti-abortion crusader.

But a Web site designed by a leading abortion opponent leaves no doubt that Kline works hand-in-hand with activists who want to see abortion clinics shut down.

Exactly who is she trying to protect?
