Missouri, Kansas pending abortion legislation turns women into chattel

With so many problems facing our area, Kansas and Missouri lawmakers remain mired in anti-abortion legislation. The latest bills treat women like chattel, assuming that women are too stupid to make the decision to have an abortion on their own.

Guns on campus are a bad idea

I'm glad that colleges and universities are banning guns on campus. It has nothing to do with the right to bear arms, it's about public safety.

In case you haven't noticed, there's a lot of drinking going on on campuses and drugs, all you need to do is add a little testosterone and you have a recipe for death. Accidents happen with guns, the last thing we need is a bunch of teenaged drunks comparing the size of their weapons.

Monday's editorial: Drunken driving laws need more attention

A troubling federal survey indicates that residents of Kansas and Missouri, compared to people in other states, face higher risks from drivers who’ve been drinking.

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that slightly more than 21 percent of Kansas drivers surveyed said they had driven while under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs. The Missouri figure was 18 percent.
